Lao Oolong Tea
Lao Oolong Tea is a unique tea preserved through a special method, offering a mature and rich flavor that deepens over time. The word “Lao” (老), meaning “aged” or “old,” reflects the essence and value of this tea.
Exquisite Processing Method:
The quality of Lao Oolong depends heavily on the production process and the skills of the craftsmen. Kim Điền Tea is proud of its over 50 years of tea cultivation experience and deep knowledge from Taiwanese masters, ensuring the creation of the highest-quality Lao Oolong Tea.
The production process of Oolong tea is already complex, involving multiple stages: withering, roasting, fermentation, stir-frying, pressing, initial drying, shaping, and final drying. This entire process takes up to 48 continuous hours and requires precise attention from the artisans to adjust each step. Since the quality of fresh tea varies from season to season, the skills and experience of the artisans are crucial in creating a high-standard Lao Oolong.
Once the Oolong tea is completed, it is carefully stored and preserved manually under the close supervision of artisans. Over time, the tea matures into Lao Oolong, developing a complex and rich flavor that provides a unique drinking experience.
Flavor Characteristics:
- Mild, Pleasant Taste: Lao Oolong has a refined and delicate taste, without being harsh on the throat. It is especially popular because, even when enjoyed in the evening, it does not cause difficulty sleeping, promoting a sense of relaxation.
- Meticulous Preservation Process: Unlike other teas such as Pu-erh or Aged White Tea, Lao Oolong is not simply stored for years. The tea must be roasted again over charcoal and preserved annually to maintain its flavor. If stored without this process, the flavor will deteriorate, and the tea may even develop mold, losing its value.
- Special Preservation Conditions: Preserving Lao Oolong requires an optimal environment to develop its unique flavor and help form Gallic Acid – a phenolic compound with strong antioxidant properties, beneficial for health. The longer it is stored, the more care the tea requires to reach perfect maturity.
- Aroma: Lao Oolong has a strong roasted seed fragrance, with a hint of light smoke and a deep, lingering sweetness that is captivating.
- Taste: The taste is a rich sweetness, similar to toasted bread, gently blending with a light smoky flavor.
Tea Color:
- The first brew has a gentle amber color. In the second and third infusions, the tea turns a rich red-brown, and the flavor becomes more complex with multiple layers of aroma.

Basic Brewing Steps:
- Warm the Teapot and Cups: Pour hot water into the teapot and cups, swirl them to warm, and discard the water.
- Awaken the Tea: Add 8-10g of Lao Oolong (or more depending on your preference) into the teapot. Then pour hot water over the tea leaves to cover them and discard this water.
- Brew the Tea: Pour 200ml of hot water into the teapot and steep for 40 seconds for the first infusion, and 60 seconds for subsequent infusions. Pour the brewed tea into a serving vessel or cups. After brewing, slightly open the lid of the teapot to prevent over-steeping. You can reuse the leaves for 4-8 infusions, with each infusion offering a different flavor.
